GLADSTONE – The search continues for the $140 million Mega Millions jackpot winner who purchased a single winning ticket from the Grain ‘N’ Grape convenience store in Gladstone.

The winning numbers were drawn on Friday, Oct. 30, and, according to the Michigan Lottery website, the jackpot will be among the largest awarded in Michigan. The site also states that the lottery winner will be required to claim their prize in person at Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing.

According to Mary Wilcox, manager at the Grain ‘N’ Grape, no one has yet come forward to claim the prize, but store owner, Mary Dani, and her employees remain excited about the ticket.

“We are really excited – Mary (Dani) has been in business for 34 years and the store is getting a lot of attention now,” she said. “We are hoping someone local wins – we have lottery clubs that come in and play every week, every draw, and then we have the individuals that come in and play, faithfully, every week.”

Retailers are eligible for commission on the sale of lottery tickets, according to Michigan Lottery website, and retailers selling a valid Mega Millions jackpot ticket receive an additional flat bonus commission payment of $50,000 once the winning ticket is redeemed for payment.

“It is an exciting bonus, especially for a small business,” said Dani. “It’s only ours if someone turns it in, though.”

Wilcox, who has worked at the Grain ‘N’ Grape since 1998, states the store has been busy ever since word of the winning ticket got out.

“We have been busy; a lot of people have been coming in and checking their tickets,” she said. “A few people have come in thinking they were the winner, but weren’t.”
